Review on Motives Cosmetics Complexion Perfection Face Primer

Motives Cosmetics Primer
Motives Face Perfecting Primer
Motives Face Perfecting Primer

The Skinny on Motives Cosmetics

In my profession the quest for a great Primer is always there. When I received this one in the post from Motives Cosmetics to say I was keen to crack it open was an under statement.  Never heard of Motives Cosmetics?  Let me fill you in.  Loren Ridinger founded Motives Cosmetics back in 2008, her aim was to provide women with the highest quality cosmetics at affordable prices. With this great formula it is no wonder that Motives Cosmetics has become an award-winning, social media favourite and must-have brand. With these kind of credentials, I was very excited in trying any of their make up to see what the hype was about.

Motives Face Perfecting Primer

The Perfecting Face Primer is a clear formula which leaves a satin finish to the skin. The formula is brilliant if you are a oily girl as one of the ingredients it contains is Silica, which helps to absorb oil. This is perfect to control the oil slick as it absorbs excess oils and minimises the appearance of pores. It also fills and softens any fine lines and slight imperfections you may have to give that soft focus kind of look to the skin. It does the usual things like preventing your make up from fading, and I felt I needed less foundation, as it helps to spread the foundation more evenly.

Now this is where most primers finish, but not this one. In the formula it contains Sodium Hyaluronate, the result of this ingredient is that it leads to a slight swelling of the skin that reduces the appearance of wrinkles.  The intense moisturisation does allow for the skin to operate at higher capacity to provide a better defence against environmental assaults and other ageing effects. I thought I would insert some selfies of me wearing the primer under my foundation to show how smooth and flawless it makes the skin.

In the time it has taken for me to trial this product and then give a full review, Motives Cosmetics got in contact to say that they were repackaging the Primer and changing the name but not the formula. At this point I had been trialling the product for over four weeks, so it shows that I like to take my time over a product before I give my opinion on it. When you click on the link it will show a beautiful royal blue packaging and the name will read Complexion Perfection Face Primer, with all the same wonderfulness in it.

So, if you are in the market for a new primer then give this a go. It is priced at the middle of the market at £18, but for the quality and the quantity you receive I think it is worth the money. Why not take a look at their website Motives Cosmetics UK for more great products.

Revlon Mascara review

Revlon Mascaras
New Revlon Mascara All in One and Volume and Length Magnified
New Revlon Mascara All in One and Volume and Length Magnified

My Thoughts On The New Revlon Mascaras

Revlon as a beauty brand has in recent years not been my first port of call when it came to buying new make up. It is a well establish brand but for me it was really for the middle aged woman. It recently came to my attention while filling in a questionnaire that I had jumped a whole age bracket! It was only then I realized that I am that middle aged woman now!! It stills shocks me on how quick age can just creep up on you and before you know it your stepping into a whole new age bracket on some questionnaire form!. Lately though Revlon has really up their game by having the likes of Michelle Keegan and Youtube sensation Tanya Burr endorse their products to appeal to a more younger audience. I decided to I picked up the new Revlon Mascaras. There are five in the new range. Only two of them really spoked to me and that was the Revlon Ultimate All in one Mascara and the Revlon Volume + Length Magnifide. I really like the packaging on these mascaras I think Revlon really hit the spot with this. Their colour coded which gives them inviduallity. The brushes are all different too which adds to what each mascara can do.

Revlon Mascaras Volume+Length and Ultimate All In One

Revlon Ultimate All In One Mascara (The RED One)

The first mascara Revlon Ultimate All In One Mascara says 5 benefits volume, length, definition, lift and intense colour. Revlon Power Mini Brush
Unique mini oval shape designed to reach every lash, Hollow core designed to deposit formula for mega lash impact is what Revlon boasts in their campaign.

After using this mascara I can confirm for me the smaller brush does deposit a lot of product onto the lashes and reaches even the most tiniest ones. Great for doing the lower lashes. So for me that is good, my only gripe, which is a shame, is that the mascara flakes. By midday I had flecks of dried mascara on my face. The formula is still wet, its not dried at all, which that is what happens when your mascara dries out. I was so disappointed because in all other areas its a great mascara, but dried flecks of mascara on your face just is not cool. Saying all this I am still using it, but making sure I check my face regularly for rogue mascara flakes!.

Revlon Volume + Length Magnified (The BLUE One)

High shine black fiber formula provides amplified volume and length, Revlon Magnifying Lash Brush Square brush designed to anchor formula to lashes for intense volume+ length, so boasts this mascara.

My view is a little different though. I was very keen on this one as for me Length is everything in a mascara. Sadly this did not lengthen my lashes noticeably but it did add volume and made my lashes look FAT. This is the weird bit, it didn’t flake like the other mascara. Obviously a different formula to the other one. So to keep using these both I have taken to putting the All In One on first then giving a coat of the Volume+Length over the top hey presto ‘No Flakes’. What can I say, I do not like waste!

So, I really wanted to love these mascaras, as the most of Revlons products are brilliant but these sadly are just lacking for me. I hope you found this review useful. Have you tried these mascaras yet? Did you have the same problem as me? Please let me know in the comments below.

My MAC Lipstick Collection

My Mac Lipsticks in my kit

MAC Lipsticks

This is a long over due review on my MAC Lipstick collection. My collection is not due to an addiction but to the need of choice in my make up kit. Lets be honest you never can have enough different shades of that Bridal Nude.  Here are some of my favourite MAC Lipsticks.

Mac Please Me MAtte
Mac Please Me Matte

My MAC Lipsticks

Mac Lipstick Please Me Matte is a muted rosey pink. This is a great spring colour. Its a nice creamy matte that is not too drying as some mattes can be. I like to team this colour with a purple/grey smokey eye.

Mac Cremecup Cremesheen
Mac Cremecup Cremesheen

Mac Lipstick Creme Cup Cremesheen is a light blue pink and looks fantastic with those of us with blue or green eyes. I like to line my lips with Mac spice lipliner and then pat this into the middle for that Kylie Jenner pout.

Mac Blankety Amplified
Mac Blankety Amplified

Mac Lipstick Blankety Amplified is a soft beige pink and is probably my favourite. This shade is a perfect Nude lip. I don’t know many people that don’t suit this lipstick. This is another Nude that would work with the whole Kyle Jenner craze thats going on at the moment.

Mac Mehr Matte
Mac Mehr Matte

Mac Lipstick Mehr Matte is a dirty blue pink. Teaming this lipstick with Mac Soar lip liner gives a great plummy tone to it. I wear this more in Autumn/Winter time as its a great seasonal transitional shade. The Matte in this is not too drying either which only adds to the appeal of this lipstick.

Mac Brave Satin
Mac Brave Satin

Brave Satin is a pink beige with white pearl and is a lovely shade that compliments most skin tones. This is a fairly safe lip colour that is great for day or night looks.

Mac Patisserie Lustre
Mac Patisserie Lustre

Patisserie Lustre is a sheer creamy neutral pink and is another favourite of mine. This is such a Bridal colour. Most brides have chosen this shade as it typically ties in with the whole natural, well polished and just a better version of yourself that all of us girls want to look like on our wedding day. Its very creamy and stays put on the lips for a normal amount of time.

Mac Myth satin
Mac Myth satin

Myth Satin is a light neutral nude and is a very popular shade, which is perfect to use to create the classic Kim Kardashian Nude Lip that people lust after. This is the lipstick for that job. Its also good at creating an ombre effect. I line my lips with a dark lip liner and fill in the corners then push this lip colour into the centre of the lips and blend the edges.

Mac Honey love Matte
Mac Honey love Matte

Honeylove  Matte light beige toned with a hint of rose to it. A very pretty colour which looks great with sandy, blonde or copper gold colour hair, more for the warmer toned hair ladies. Its not my fav any more, because I change my hair colour like the wind and it doesn’t suit me at the moment. It also has seen better days as you can see in the picture as it has been ravaged by my two year old.

Mac Rebel Satin
Mac Rebel Satin

Rebel Satin is a cream plum and is a perfect shade for Autumn/Winter. I always break out this bad boy when this season comes around. I like to team this with Mac Nightmoth lip liner as they really compliment each other and give that Gothic Lip.

Mac Ladybug Lustre
Mac Ladybug Lustre

Ladybug Lustre is a yellow tomato colour. Its such a strong power colour and looks great with winged eye liner and contoured cheeks. Be careful though with this colour as it can on some people make your teeth look yellow due to the undertone in it, you have been warned!.

Mac Peachblossom Cremesheen
Mac Peachblossom Cremesheen

Peach Blossom Cremesheen is a frosted cool tone and looks lovely as a natural sheen to the lip giving a peachy, pinky tone to the lips.

So there you go my kit collection of some of my Mac Lipsticks. I haven’t included my palettes this time but if you want to see those also let me know in the comments below. What is your favourite shade or if you recommend any colours I should add to my kit I would love to hear from you.

Hair Heroes – Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray

Bumble and bumble Hair products.
Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray
Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray

Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray

We decided in the salon that we would start the Hair Heroes Series by championing a product every eight weeks. We will show you how to use it, what is does, and why you need it in your life. The first product we have chosen is the Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray.

This Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray gives every girl or boy the ‘lift off’ your hair needs. When I hear the words ‘thickening’, I think I don’t need this, my hair is Thick enough, but lets be honest who ever didn’t want a little more va va vroom in their hair. There is nothing quite like creating hair envy when you enter the room and you have BIG, Voluminous hair.  What’s great about this product is that its been designed to be used in any type of hair that wants this kind of oomph by spraying the product to different sections of the hair to give you different results.

How To

To achieve a tousled, fuller look, spray in sections on damp hair where you want to achieve fullness and body, then blow-dry (with a hair-dryer with a nozzle on!) the roots until they are smooth. Then twirl sections around your finger to give a loose wave and movement to the hair. When my hair is dry, I put about a penny size piece of Bumble and bumble Contour Cream to smooth the ends and amplify the mid-length and ends.  I love how big I can get my hair to be with this product.  No more listless lank hair. Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray gives hair life and fullness and gives you your mojo back!.

This product comes in a 250ml bottle for £22.00 or Travel size 50ml for £9.50. What ever your budget there is something that could fit for you. If you haven’t tried this product yet, I would highly recommend it, you wont be disappointed. Let me know if you have tried the range and what you think in the comments below.  I would be thrilled if you would follow me on my social media channels. Click on the links below.

The Best Drugstore Micellar Cleansing Water

Drugstore Micellar Waters Garnier, Nivea, and Simple

A line up of my Best Drugstore Micellar Cleansing WaterReview of Drugstore Micellar Cleansing Water

I think every man and his dog has one of these in their make up arsenal, what am I talking about, Yes Micellar Cleansing water. Back in the day it was something that only make-up artists would use the pricey Micellar Cleansing Water– Bioderma. Then the drugstore brought it to everyone. To be fair why should make-up artists have all the tricks. Far better to share the know how and for all to benefit.  I have been giving the 3 main drugstore alternatives a fair go and it surprised me how they all have a slight difference, let me elaborate.

Nivea Sensitive 3 in 1 Micellar Cleansing water

I picked this one up when it was on offer at the local supermarket as it is more pricey than the other Micellar Cleansing Water. It worked really well at removing make-up and water-proof eye make-up as well.  This product in my opinion is perfect if you have a delicate skin as it is such a gentle formula.  It contains 200ml and the packaging is inoffensive. It really is the formula that sets it apart with Dexpanthenol ( relieves dry skin) and grape seed oil (controls moisture in the skin) included really boosts it power in being gentle on the skin.

Nivea Micellar Cleansing WaterSimple Kind To Kind Micellar Cleansing Water

Simple has always been a great range that is really kind to the skin. Its effects are very similar to the Nivea Micellar Cleansing Water apart from, it took a couple of goes to remove water-proof eye make-up.  It contains 200ml as well,  but I just felt the Nivea Micellar Cleansing Water just had that little extra edge.

Simple Kind to skin Micellar Cleansing Water
Simple Kind To Skin Micellar Cleansing Water

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

I reviewed this when it first came out back in April last year and had it in My favourites in July as well.  So to say  This is my FAVOURITE is an under statement.  It removes make-up, Waterproof Eye Make-up, and does what it says on the bottle. It’s a whopping 400ml in this bottle, that’s 200 uses at least.  Great value for money! So for price point it blows the other two out of the water.  There is a draw back, and I only noticed this because of using the other two.  It is a little drying,  in the way that your face can start to feel a little tight if you are not swift about slapping on the moisturiser, but for me that is my only quarrel that I have with it. For me The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is the best on the market.

So there you are, my favourite Micellar Cleansing Water. Have you tried any of the Micellar Cleansing Waters that are on the market at the moment? I would love to hear from you. I would be thrilled if you would follow on my social media channels. Click on the links below.

My Beauty Staples for 2015

My Beauty 2015 Picks
2015 Beauty Staples
FlatLay of My Must Have Beauty Favourites For 2015

Hello and welcome back to my blog. I am pumped after having some well needed time off!  That’s what I should be saying but I didn’t as we were frantically  decorating and re-modernizing our New Hair Salon! It’s been an exciting couple of weeks but exhausting, I am now looking forward to getting back to some normality and do what I enjoy doing, chatting to you guys! I thought I would kick off January with what Beauty products have stayed in my Make-up bag and that I use regularly. So lets get on with it.

My Beauty Staples

My first Beauty staple is My Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette. I reviewed this back in May and I have used it everyday. I love the pigmentation of all the colours. I use the three lighter shades to set my highlighting and then contour with all three of the darker shades. It really is a super palette and well worth the price tag. It is a firm favourite for me and will be staying in my Make-up bag for Now!.

My second Beauty staple is my Loreal Infalliable foundation. I reviewed this back in July and have used it continuously since. I know there has been mixed reviews on this product and at times I did find it a little drying as it is a matt foundation, but I overcame this by putting a little highlighter cream or couple drops of facial oil, just to give the product a little workability. I feel this foundation gives such a nice cover for the price point and it has a nice feel to it, definitely worth a try.

My Third Beauty Staple is Maybelline Brow drama. I bought this back in June and I instantly found it to be a gem of a eyebrow product. It has been a firm favourite in my make up bag, and has taken a fair beating as you can see from the packaging! The colour is spot on. Normally the colours for blondes can be on the warm side, but most people are on the cooler side. I need not of fretted as this one has a great cool tone and works well in not only taming the brows but also giving them a little definition.

Maybelline Brow Drama

My Fourth Beauty Staple is another Maybelline product and that is the Master Precise liquid eyeliner. It took me weeks to get hold of this product as it was always sold out at my local Boots and Superdrug. Then a trip to Manchester City Centre and I was able to get my hands on this fantastic liner, I actually bought two so as not to run out anytime soon. The nib is super fine so you can easily achieve your winged liner. Also the durability and inkness is really good quality for the price point. If you are in the market for a liner, give this one ago.

Maybelline Precise Liquid Pen Liner
Maybelline Precise Pen Liner

My Fifth Beauty Staple is MAC Paint Pot in the shade Painterly. I use this everyday to prime my eyelids to help make them ready for shadow. I have quite blue veined and oily eyelids, so I really need a base to hide all this. This product has no problem doing this and leaves a smooth blank canvas for me to work on. It is a little pricey and I believe that Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo has something similar so that might be worth a try. With that all being said I still think it is well worth the money as I have had mine for at least 18 months and it is still going strong.

Mac Paint Pot

My Sixth and Seventh Beauty Staple is Illamasqua Pencil in Vow and Real Techniques Miracle Sponge. I will talk about the Illamasqua Eye Colouring Pencil in Vow. I use this pencil to line inside my water line when it is red from lack of sleep (joys of having three children). Its durability is brilliant and I love the creamy, pinky tone it has as it really makes your eyes look natural. I also use this to go under my brows to frame or carve them out and it gives them a well needed structure. The Real Techniques Miracle Sponge is a stonking good dupe for the Beauty Blender. Mine is a little battered as you can see from the picture, as my two year old son thought it was a teething toy!.  The material is obviously a little different but it really holds its own for only £6.99. If you want to get back into sponges (which I recommend you do) then give this one ago first to see how you like the finish it gives.

RT Miracle Sponge and Illamasqua Pencil in Vow

My Eighth and Ninth Beauty Staple is Real Techniques Setting Brush and Bold Metal Range 100. The setting brush is just the right size to set your under eye make up or to place highlighter on the cheek bones. For me I have to have this with me for touching up on the go. The Bold Metals brush is a luxurious treat. It’s a soft, plumped brush that is weighted to give you more control over the brush. I use this to buff my foundation in and to add blusher or bronzer. Gorgeous brush.

So there are my Beauty Staples for 2015. These items are firmly in my make-up bag and I just think they all have so many uses.

What has been your beauty favourites for 2015?  Are there any you think I should try?  I would love to know, please leave your comments below. Also don’t forget to keep up with all my goings on, on all my social media.
